WHO WE ARE
CONNECT is a brand for student-led activities that emphasises student engagement with employers. This is headed by CEDE- The Centre for Engineering and Design Education at Loughborough University.
The primary aim of CONNECT is to encourage student-led activities within any subject area or degree course that has employer’s involvement, in order to encourage enthusiasm in their field of study (or other fields), develop their employability skills and improve the Loughborough Experience..
What’s a student-led activity? For us at CONNECT it means that
1. It is run and headed entirely by students
2. Includes employer engagement
3. It’s extracurricular
CONNECT’s role is to encourage students to get involved and provide support for students in setting up and managing student led activities and bringing them one step closer to Employers.
In 2010, CONNECT, formerly known as Student-Led Projects Loughborough, started out, inspired by projects of similar nature at Imperial College London. Student-Led Projects won a bid submitted by the Centre for Engineering and Design Education (CEDE) and was awarded funding from the National HE STEM. As a result, Student-Led Project only covered activities in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subject areas. The purpose of Student-Led Projects was to encourage and support student led activities in the STEM disciplines at Loughborough University.
Student-Led Projects was able to see the successful birth of four Student Led Activities on campus. These include;
In December 2013, Student-led Projects became CONNECT and is now supported by Loughborough University Development Trust and open to all degree areas across Loughborough University.
